Loss Reduction of Distribution Network by Optimal Reconfiguration and Capacitor Placement Using Cuckoo and Cultural Algorithms

This paper presents a method to minimize losses and improve the voltage profile of distribution networks by network reconfiguration and optimal capacitor placement using Cuckoo and Cultural meta-heuristic algorithms. This paper uses the technique of opening and closing the switches of the distribution network to change the structure of the distribution network so that all the switches are closed at first. Then they are opened one by one and whoever has the minimum loss, then this state of the switches is considered the best state and the topology will be selected. The optimal placement and size of the capacitor improve the voltage profile and minimizes the losses of the distribution network. The proposed algorithm is tested and verified on IEEE 69-bus network.
