A Novel Three-Phase Multilevel Converter for Medium Voltage Application

A novel three-phase multilevel converter is proposed. The inverter adds a clamping diode between each bridge leg. And using the split inductance method, the inductance is placed between the upper and lower switches of each phase branch. The inverter has a simpler construction and eliminates shoot-through problems without adding dead time. Simulation and experimental results verify that the topology has better voltage and current waveform quality and lower and consistent voltage and current switching stress. Additionally, the topology can be applied to various loads with good response and performance.
