An IoT Monitoring System Designed for Hydroponics Plant Cultivation

Hydroponics has paved the way in allowing individuals to grow plants with no soil. Hydroponics system is now used to grow plants and vegetables outdoors or indoors using water and solution with nutrients. It is an ideal solution for people who live in urban areas and high-ground places like apartments and condominiums. With the use of the internet of things, it has become more possible to monitor plants in a more advanced way. The internet of things has allowed different platforms to gather information, control, and monitor different devices across the established network. The goal of this study is to create an IoT monitoring system for plants with the integration of hydroponics. The study has used different sensors together with a microcontroller device which monitor the nutrient contents, water level, temperature, humidity, color, pH level, and the electric conductivity of the plants. These plant-based parameters are monitored, and data are stored using the Blynk IoT platform for mobile devices. The user of the system can use the mobile application to check and cater to the needs of the plants, whether it needs more water, liquid fertilizer, or other solutions to be added in the hydroponics system. The system in the study can be used for indoor gardening.
