WBG based Integrated Drive System for Electric Vehicle

Electric Vehicles (EV) are one of the most promising next generation technologies which yields to a revolutionary change across the globe in the automotive domain. Wide Band-Gap (WBG) device based power electronic systems bring their attraction with its superior characteristics like low loss, high frequency, high temperature operation with a perfect fit for EV application which demands high amount of size reduction, reduced cost and increased efficiency. Numerous drivetrain technologies are presented to market nowadays with advanced architectures which fits into the exact application. Integrated drive system (IDS) facilitates a new drivetrain platform where the electric drive and motor will be comprised into a single unit with integrated cooling mechanism. This paper presents an overview of design and development of a WBG based IDS in order to drive a 30kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) for EV drivetrain.
