A Novel Triangular-Shaped Reconfigurable Dielectric Resonator Antenna for Microwave Application

The dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is superior to metallic antennas in many ways, including low loss and compact design. Reconfigurable antennas are getting more attention because they have many features. In this work, a frequency-reconfigurable triangular-shaped dielectric resonating antenna with a slot feed has been presented and analysed. The DRA substrate is FR4, with a dielectric constant of 4.3, and located on the ground plane. In the feed line, a capacitor is inserted to modify the frequency. The frequency of the DRA can be switched from 3.3 GHz to 5.1 GHz by changing the capacitor value from 0.1 pF to 2.2 pF. The proposed DRA shows the gains at 2.84 dBi and 5.53 dBi at 3.3 GHz and 5.1 GHz, respectively, in the simulation. The fractional impedance bandwidth is 5.7% at 3.3 GHz and 9.2% at 5.1 GHz.
