Harmonic Reduction in Multi-Pulse Rectifier Using DC Injection Circuit for MEA Applications

This paper proposes zigzag transformer based 12-pulse converter with Dickson voltage multiplier injection circuit which gives 24-pulse output. Hence, the input current modulates as nearly sinusoidal and it meets the IEEE-519 standard where the normal 12-pulse converter does not meet. The utilized zigzag auto-connected transformer inherently blocks zero sequence components and hence the requirement of ZSBT is eliminated. Further, MATLAB/Simulink based simulations are performed and results are presented. The proposed converter results THD up to 4.49% and mitigates harmonic content especially lower order harmonics in input current. Furthermore, power quality indices of proposed converter and normal 12-pulse, 24-pulse converters are compared. An attempt is made to apply the proposed concept to more electric aircraft applications.
