Highly Sensitive Perovskite based Refractometric Sensor for Nitrogen Dioxide Gas Detection

In this work, we have theoretically investigated an ultrafast refractometric-based sensor for Nitrogen Dioxide (NO
2
) gas detection. In designing the sensor, we have used perovskite as a novel functional material. It exhibits a change in its conductivity along with its refractive index change upon absorption and release of NO
2
gas detection. Putting a thin layer of perovskite into operation on top of the silicon micro ring, minimum detection limit can be reached within a specific concentration range, eventually leading to very high sensitivity. If we look into the detection ability in terms of conductivity or refractive index change, perovskite seems to be the future of gas sensor. Its stability can be controlled by doping or substituting selective material (Cesium in this case).
