Design of Highly Miniaturized Zero Order Resonator Antenna for Wireless Applications

A highly compact Zero Order Resonator Antenna is designed at on FR4 epoxy substrate having relative permittivity 4.4 and thickness 1. 6mm using the Composite Right Left Hand transmission Line approach. Meandered lines are employed on the patch to decrease the resonant frequency of the antenna without altering the overall dimension. The proposed antenna resonates at 3. 33GHz (simulated) with a peak gain of 0. 655dBi with an overall dimension of 9mm×11mm×1. 6mm. Fabricated antenna resonates 3. 313GHz with a peak gain of 0. 4dBi. A size reduction of 94.8% is achieved against the conventional dimension of patch antenna when designed at 3. 3GHz. The simulated and measured results are in close agreement. A higher resonant frequency of 5.61GHz is achieved with a peak gain of 6. 4dBi by reducing the length of the meandered line without affecting the overall dimension of antenna.
