Performance Analysis in Kesterite CZGS/CZGSe Quantum Wells towards high-Efficiency Photovoltaic Applications

Kesterite materials are emerging as a viable candidate for solar cells due to environmental friendliness, low cost and non-toxic absorption. This article investigates multiple quantum well solar cells (MQWSC) using CZGS and CZGSe as barrier and well material. An aspect of inserting quantum wells in the range of (2-50QWs) in Cu-Zn-Ge-S kesterite compounds demon-strates the uniqueness of this research. Electrical properties such as electric field, recombination rate is explored with respect to variation in number of quantum wells. Investigation on optical properties such as EQE, IQE of MQW solar cells again adds a different dimension to explore the device. It is noticed that as the no.of quantum wells increases, the photo-generated current density increases dramatically. A device is optimized to achieve high electrical optical properties as well as efficiency of solar cell. A notable efficiency of 29% could be achieved using 50 quantum wells in CZGS/CZGSe structure.
