Selecting a Suitable Portable X-ray Equipment Based on the Non-destructive Testing of Crimped Power Fittings on Transmission Lines

In this paper, we use different types of X-ray and pulse equipments to carry out some non-destructive testing experiments based on various aluminum and steel crimping type power fittings. A series of comparative experiments showed that the 80kV voltage ray equipment could not successfully penetrate our samples of steel or steel-aluminum alloy fittings. In fact, long-distance power transmission lines in China will involve power fittings of different materials, types and thicknesses, and in most cases, climbing power towers manually is required to carry out high-altitude flaw detection operations. Therefore, how to balance the relationship between the weight, voltage, penetration effect of X-ray equipments, personnel safety and test efficiency is a task worthy of in-depth investigation.
