Time-Domain Analysis on Pulse Radiation Properties of Antennas Based on Goubau Line and Spoof Surface Plasmon Polariton

In this paper, pulse radiation properties of antennas based on Goubau line and Spoof Surface Plasmon Polariton (SSPP) are evaluated with a time-domain method. Pulse radiation ability is characterized by the normalized Euclid distance (NED) which covers fidelity and amplitude ratio. Due to the stronger dispersion of SSPP, radiated pulses would apparently become distorted and the NED between the excited and radiated pulses increases. To evaluate the overall pulse radiation property of the two antennas, the NED patterns are presented when signal with operating frequency from 7 GHz to 14 GHz is excited. The minimum NED of Goubau line in E-plane and H-plane pattern is 0.184 and SSPP is 0.418. All of these results prove that the Goubau line is applicable to design short-pulse antennas, especially compared to the SSPP structure.
