An Endfire Antenna Based on Antipodal Symmetric Spoof Surface Plasmon Polaritons

In this paper, a millimeter wave endfire antenna fed by substrate intergrated waveguide is presented. The antipodal symmetric periodic grooves structure on and below the substrate produces spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) wave. A horn shaped aperture similar to a planar horn antenna is formed which results in endfire radiation. The antenna operates over 27.1 Ghz to 29.6 Ghz, and good endfire radiation is achieved within the bandwidth. The peak gain reaches 10.1 dBi, and the radiation efficiency is higher than 97%.
