Design of VHF/UHF Wideband Airborne Antenna

This paper studied the application of wideband, miniaturization of VHF/UHF airborne antenna, an airborne bow-tie antenna with reflecting cavity is designed. The bent bowtie antenna is used to expand the conducting path and realize the miniaturization of the antenna. The antenna arm is adding a novel branch capacitor, which broadens the high-frequency bandwidth and reduces the transverse size of the antenna. By adopting the metal back cavity structure, the low frequency bandwidth of the antenna is expanded, and the directional radiation capability is improved. The simulation results show that an impedance bandwidth of 150–450 MHz (100%) for VSWR < 2 is obtained, while the overall size of the antenna is less than
$0.215\lambda_{\mathrm{L}}\times 0.25\lambda_{\mathrm{L}}\times 0.09\lambda_{\mathrm{L}}$
