An Efficient Topology Optimization Strategy Based on the Combination of GA and SIMP

An efficient two-stage topology optimization strategy is proposed, which combines Genetic algorithm (GA) and scalar isotropic material with penalization (SIMP) method. In the first stage, GA searches the design domain to obtain a simple coarse structure with good electromagnetic response. In the second stage, SIMP method is used to further optimize the coarse structure to meet the design requirements. Two fidelity models are applied to the optimization process, which balance the convergence speed and simulation accuracy. This optimization strategy is applied to the design of a high-gain right-handed circularly polarized (RHCP) antenna. In the SIMP stage, the GA-optimized structure has faster convergence speed and better optimization effect than the random structure.
