A Low-Profile Substrate Integrated Cavity Antenna Loaded with Periodic Irises in LTCC

This paper presents a low-profile substrate integrated cavity (SIC) antenna loaded with periodic irises using low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology. By loading the irises in each layer of the SIC, the propagation constant in the vertical direction is increased. Thus, the profile is decreased by 40% in this design, with the same transverse dimensions as the conventional SIC. The proposed antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth of 9.3% from 57.69 to 63.27 GHz, and a peak gain of 6.65 dBi.
