On the Performance of Communication in a Vehicular Network with Platooned Traffic

In this paper, we analyze the performance of a vehicular communication network with platooned vehicular traffic modeled as a one dimensional (1D) Matérn cluster process (MCP) on a road. The vehicular traffic is served by a cellular network of road side units (RSUs) distributed as a 1D Poisson point process (PPP) along the lane to provide connectivity. We then study a two-hop communication architecture where each vehicle of a platoon receives information from its platoon head (PH) whereas PH is connected to the nearest RSU. We derive the success probability of both links along with overall coverage of the typical vehicle. We also characterize the link reliability in terms of the meta distribution (MD) of the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR). Our analysis demonstrates that the traffic parameters- the platoon radius and density, have the same impact on the coverage probability and the MD of SIR.
