Does Spatial Location of The Electrodes in EEG Matter for Tracking the Brain States?

Electroencephalography (EEG) has been an important tool to study the human brain owing to its excellent time resolution. However, setting up the EEG electrodes on the scalp is cumbersome, time taking, and could be daunting to the subjects. In this paper, we have investigated whether placing the electrode with labels is necessary for some of the EEG-based analyses. We have used spatial graph and its eigenspace to analyze how the accuracy to detect the brain state transition depends on the choice of electrodes. Empirical results show that the accuracy to predict the brain state transition depends on the density of the electrodes but there is no significant difference in the accuracy of different sets of electrodes. It also shows that electrodes from the specific spatial location are unimportant for detecting the brain state transitions.
