An Optimal Deployment Approach for Transmission Line Wireless Sensor Network Based on NSGA2

High voltage transmission line is one of the most critical parts in the power transmission and distribution system. In order to deal with the failures of transmission line caused by natural disasters immediately, real-time monitoring of transmission lines is required. At present, low-cost plan is achieved by deploying a large number of sensors on transmission towers and transmitting monitoring data by using wireless communications. In remote areas without public network, the data of sensors will accumulate due to the long-distance multi-hop transmission, which will lead to excessive transmission delay. To address the problem, a wireless sensor network model of 2.4GHz is proposed which takes the low-power wireless sensor technology into account, and the simulation results on 2.4GHz show that the proposed network model can reduce the transmission delay effectively. A multi-objective optimization algorithm for the proposed wireless network model is proposed based on non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA2), which can be applied to optimize the deployment of wireless sensor network by finding the tradeoff among the total network power consumption, network capacity, and total delay.
