A Single-Port Polarization Reconfigurable Antenna Using a Stacked Structure with Broad Bandwidth

Abstract - In this paper, a wideband polarization reconfigurable antenna (PRA) that can realize polarization conversion between linear polarization (LP) mode and circular polarization (CP) mode is proposed. The polarization reconfigurable antenna in this paper consists of a crossed-slot antenna and two parasitic radiation patches. Four p-i-n diodes are then introduced to control the polarization modes. The simulation results show that the antenna achieves a wide bandwidth over 2.1-2.7 GHz (both $\left|S_{11}\right|\lt -10 d B$ and axial ratio $\lt 3 \mathrm{~dB}$) for the $C P$. For the $L P$, the antenna also gets the same bandwidth $\left(\left|S_{11}\right|\lt -10 d B\right.$ over 2.1-2.7GHz). Finally, the PRA is also used as a unit to build a polarization reconfigurable antenna array (PRAA), which still has excellent polarization reconfigurable characteristics.
