Dual-Polarization High-Gain Array Antenna without Power Division Network for 5G Base Station

A dual-polarization high-gain array antenna without power division network is proposed. A crossed dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is applied as a driven element. A coupled rectangular metal patch is placed above the DRA radiating as a three-unit antenna array. In order to improve the isolation between the two dual polarized ports, tree shorted pins are designed across the dielectric resonator. Otherwise, the slots with different sizes is etched on the metal patch to suppress the cross polarization. A ±45° dual-polarization antenna array with high gain upper than 11dBi and beamwidth of 23° at vertical plane (V-plane) and 65° at horizontal plane (H-plane) in the frequency of 3.4Ghz - 3.6Ghz have been achieved. The proposed design have promising applications for 5G base station with simpler architecture and lower feeding loss.
