Comparison of different levels of cascaded H bridge multilevel inverter using PSPWM technique for EV applications

This study compares several levels of cascaded H-Bridge multilevel inverters using the PSPWM techniques for applications in electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). A DC-DC boost converter is used by the current power inverter systems for HEVs to increase the battery voltage for a typical three-phase inverter. The HEV drive inverters used nowadays have a poor power density. Due to its high power applications and low harmonic distortion, the multilevel inverter is frequently employed in the fields of energy distribution, electric vehicles, and control systems. This paper examines the performance of cascaded H-Bridge multilevel inverters with five, eleven, twenty-one, and forty-one levels, as well as the overall harmonic distortion, waveform pattern, output voltage, number of switches, input DC voltage and switching spectrum using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
