Experimental Studies of FSO Communication Channel Using Visible Wavelengths Coherent Optical Sources in Artificial Rainy Condition

In Free Space Optical communication system, the optical wireless communication channel established in free air, is affected by different atmospheric hazards like rain, fog, dust, snow, etc. The impact of rain is on Free Space Optical (FSO) communication system is enormous. The higher rain rates can create a clumsy effect on the system, especially for the tropical, temperate region. In this article, the experimental results of artificially created various rain rates and their effect, on the FSO communication channel have been studied. For link range 20m, using 532nm and 638nm visible wavelength LASER communication channel through artificial rain chamber, their attenuation levels and finally Bit Error Rate (BER) have been calculated for different rain rates.
