Performance analysis of different rotor configuration of LSPMSM for Electric Vehicles

This paper employs a comparative study between four different types of rotor structures (Bar, U-, V- and W-type) of a Line Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (LSPMSM) for Constant Power Speed Range (CPSR). This could be obtained by weakening the field flux which also limits the torque and power. Direction of magnetisation of permanent magnet effects the distribution of flux and hence controls the flux weakening operation. The basic motor parameters such as d-and q- axis flux linkages, permanent magnet flux linkages, d-and q- axis currents etc were obtained under Maxwell environment with standard motor dimensions whereas the CPSR has been calculated analytically using Matlab.
