Thermal analysis of two-input boost converter

This paper investigates losses in a two-input boost converter operating on continuous current conduction mode with a constant switching frequency. The converter can be applied for renewable sources such as photovoltaic cells and fuel cell applications where several stacks of cells are separated. A thermal imaging camera shows the temperature distribution for the main switch devices when all input powers are identical. A synchronous rectifier is used to reduce the losses on the switch devices. Using a anti-parallel diode and the MOSFET is compared in terms of losses. One can observe that using a synchronous rectifier offers higher efficiency than using a diode.
