Ground Assembly Coil Design Routine for Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer

In this paper, a design routine for the ground assembly (GA) of a dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) system is presented. Firstly, the characteristics of the LCC compensated segmented DWPT lane are used in order to derive a design criterion that evaluates both, costs and efficiency. The developed time-efficient design method returns the optimal geometry, coil control strategy, and positioning of the segmented GA coils depending on a predetermined vehicle assembly (VA). In addition to the general optimization objectives costs and efficiency, the output power fluctuation along the road is taken into consideration. In a final step, the effectiveness of the design routine is examined and demonstrated through a simulative coil design interoperable to the current SAE J2954 standard.
