Performance Analysis of Energy Efficient Single Phase Induction Motor

Mono phase induction motors are employed in almost all constant speed home and industrial appliances. The aim of this project is to conserve energy, to enhance the true power factor (pf) and to avoid underutilization of the machine. Therefore, the performance and efficiency of the motor gets improved. The single phase induction motors requires two stator windings for producing the rotating magnetic field: one is the main or running winding or coil and the other is the auxiliary or starting winding or coil. The necessity of the running coil is the creation of the rotating electromagnetic field when the machine is started and turned off afterwards, usually by the disconnect switch coupled along with the rotating part of the machine or machine’s shaft. The aim of this work is the evaluation of the comparison of the power quality indices such as power factor, efficiency, active and reactive power with loading of auxiliary winding and without loading of auxiliary winding under the conditions of light load and rated load conditions. The simulation was performed through software based MATLAB, for making the extraction and results analysis feasible.
