Energy Efficiency Management with Smart Outdoor Lighting System (SOLS)

Frequent outdoor activities and transportation require proper and supportive infrastructure, one of which is public street lighting. However, conventional lighting systems for public street lighting work on average 12 hours a day, starting from 6 pm to 6 am and the energy required is quite large because the intensity of light is the same every hour with a long duration. In this paper, we propose a smart outdoor lighting system with the Internet of Things (IoT) technology and the use of fuzzy logic algorithms that can help reduce energy consumption by streamlining operating hours, changing light intensity, and saving budget expenses. The scenario of implementing the system outdoors at night shows that this smart outdoor lighting system can save up to 35% of power consumption and up to 70% of energy consumption.
