Quantitative Assessment of Captured Magnetic Nanoparticles Using Self-Powered Magnetoelectric Platform for Biological Applications

This work demonstrates a self-powered, Ni/PMN-PT based magnetoelectric platform for rapid assessment of captured magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) concentration. Injected MNPs are captured by the generated field gradient from Ni thin film, and the optothermal-pyroelectric property of PMN-PT is used to quantitative assess the captured MNPs concentration. Under the incident infrared pulse at zero bias, the device exhibits different photoresponse with varied injected MNPs concentrations. The transient photocurrent shows nearly linear relationship to the injected MNP concentration. The fabricated device exhibits high sensitivity of 0.29nA. mg

. ml, a short response time (< 2 sec), excellent stability and selectivity towards MNPs. Such a self-powered ME platform may open up avenues for new applications in areas such as controlled drug delivery, hyperthermia, cell labelling, etc., where a single device can capture as well as quantitatively assess the captured MNPs efficiently.
