Optoelectronic Integrated Ultramicroelectrode for Optical Stimulation and Electrical Recording of Single-Cell

Single-cell detection is of increasing interest with the development of micro-nano electrodes. To achieve single-cell optical stimulation and electrical recording, this paper reports an optoelectronic integrated ultramicroelectrode (OE-UME). The OE-UME is fabricated from optical fiber and quartz capillary by laser-assisted pulling method, which has the advantages of a simple process and high integration. Besides, the electrochemistry, electrical artifacts, and optical stimulation of OE-UME are tested. For the application, the OE-UME has the potential to efficiently transmit specific wavelengths of light to single-cell regions and study the relationship between intracellular optogenetics and membrane potential signals.
