Folding Method of Kirigami Structure with Folding Lines

We proposed a kirigami structure with folding lines (referred to as a "kiri-origami") for flexible electronic devices and its folding methods. Kiri-origami structure has advantages in mounting rigid components and batch fabrication for the folding structure with many panels. We achieved the ideal folding-up of the kiri-origami structure by using a buffer structure and 2-axis extension in order to remove the cause of distortion and effectively utilize the tensile force for bending. We compared shape uniformity with/without the buffer structure and evaluated the panel warping under a 2-axis extension. In addition, we fabricated a kiri-origami LED display with more than 500 hinges and we show the applicability of our structure and methods for devices.
