Inset Fed Circular Microstrip Patch Antenna at 2.4 GHz for IWSN Applications

A 2.4GHz Circular Microstrip Patch Antenna (CMPA) is designed and simulated using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) studio suite simulator software. The circular patch antenna is built on a Flame Retardant 4 (FR4) substrate with a dielectric constant of 4.4 and a height of 1.6mm, and it is fed by an inset fed microstrip line technique. Several antenna characteristics are investigated, including gain, directivity, radiation efficiency, return loss, bandwidth, voltage standing ratio, and reflection coefficient. To demonstrate its superior performance, the designed antenna is compared to probe-fed and edge-fed microstrip line antennas in the literature. This antenna's resonant frequency ranges from 2.35 to 2.43GHz, and it has a high gain and directivity, making it suitable for reducing interference in Industrial Wireless Sensor Network (IWSN) applications.
