Linearity Improvements and Large Inductance Spread Methods in SQA Design

HTS Bi-SQUID elements inherently have a larger inductance due to the need for a bisecting junction. For a large single anti-peak feature in a non-uniform SQUID Array (SQA), the dimensionless screening parameter
${{{\beta }}}_{{L}} < 1$
is desirable. Additionally, to reduce the side lobes, a full order of magnitude spread in
${{{\beta }}}_{{L}}$
should be used. The bi-SQUID element can be used to obtain the largest area features in the distribution without having complications with elements requiring such a difference in size and thus different exposure times in the fabrication process. Additionally, several bi-SQUID elements in a large SQA can improve the linearity of the average voltage response to a varying magnetic field. We explore the successive introduction of Bi-SQUID elements to replace the largest area elements in a SQUID Array.
