Electrically Compact Quasi Yagi-Uda Antenna for S-Band Applications

A uniplanar, compact quasi-Yagi-Uda antenna for end-fire radiation in the S-band is proposed in this paper. The proposed antenna comprises one reflector (ground), one driven, and one director element. A fractional bandwidth of 13% (|S

| < -10 dB) with a peak gain of 4.1 dBi has been achieved on a compact size of 0.33 λo× 0.16λo× 0.015λo. To achieve a compact size, the antenna is synthesized using the concepts of a microstrip antenna, along with a U-Shaped ground and a meandered radiating element. The proposed quasi-Yagi-U da antenna is suitable for applications requiring radiation in the end-fire region.
