Gain Enhancement of Cage Shaped Antenna using Frequency Selective Surface for mm-wave Applications

This paper presents a gain enhancement of cage shaped coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed antenna by using Jerusalem cross-loaded double square loop (JCLDSL) frequency selective surface (FSS) for mm-wave applications in the 5G spectrum. For a resonant frequency of 26GHz, the overall dimension of the cage shape antenna (CSA) is 0.18λ

mm. Simulation results show that with the addition of JCLDSL FSS at 26GHz, the gain is improved by 7.9dBi and the bandwidth is improved to 2500MHz. This makes the proposed JCLDSL FSS inspired antenna an attractive candidate for mm-wave applications.
