Fem Analyses of an Ultrasonic Transducer with Conical Aluminum Shell Structure

In order to improve the performance of ultrasonically catalyzed gas sensors, this work proposed a novel structure of ultrasonic transducer for the ultrasonically catalyzed gas sensing system, and analyzed the sound pressure in the ultrasonic field. A conical aluminum shell, which was excited by a piezoelectric disc at its bottom was used as the vibration radiator of the ultrasonic transducer. The FEM analysis shows that the radial vibration of the piezoelectric disc can excite a useful vibration mode in the transducer, and properly tuning the parameters such as the distance between the aluminum shell’s exit end and the sensor base’s upper surface, and the thickness of the sidewall of the aluminum shell, can increase the sound pressure at the sensitive surface, and thus enhance the ultrasonic catalysis effect.
