Design and Analysis of Interior PMSM for Low Power EV Applications in Hilly Terrain

High power and high energy density is necessity of modern day electric vehicle (EV) system. Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (IPMSM) developed as a significant choice for EV applications due to its exceptional performance and compact size. A 4kW Electric vehicle drive system requires motor design to provide tractive effort for low power electric vehicle. In this paper 3-phase IPMSM is designed for hilly terrain using analytical method and proposed model is then validated with using Finite Element analysis using Ansys Maxwell 2D environment. The design process includes imperative assumptions and evaluates machine parameters. The design incorporates V-type magnet structure and NdFeB(N42) to utilized as rare earth material. The analysis results determine the effectiveness of anticipated machine design.
