Real-Time Performance Investigation of a Solar PV Integrated DFIG System

The necessity of finding replacements for fossil fuels has become more widely recognized in response to increased energy demand. Therefore, experts are focusing on making renewable energy sources like solar and wind viable alternatives to long-term solutions for providing reliable and affordable electricity. This paper presents the framework for a hybrid system. The configuration comprises photovoltaic panels and a wind turbine that uses a direct current induction generator (DFIG) with controllers for the rotor side and grid side. The purpose of this paper is to conduct a performance analysis of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system that has been combined with a DFIG. A MATLAB/Simulink model of a 60 kW photovoltaic array and a 288 kVA DFIG system has been modeled to simulate and observe the system performance. The observation shows that the integration of a solar photovoltaic (SPV) system with a wind energy conversion system (WECS) based on a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) has the potential for demand-side power management. Finally, a real-time model is created using Opal RT to validate the hybrid system performance comparison under various operating conditions. Integration of PV systems with DFIG provides coordinated control, decreases operating costs, and boosts performance during the transfer of power flow.
