Abstract:

Owing to low cost and ease of regulation, uncontrolled three phase rectifiers are generally used in very high power applications. Since, rectifier is non-linear in nature due to the non-linearity of diode, it draws non sinusoidal input current from the ac power sources which contains large harmonic current. The input harmonic current interacts with the impedance of the power distribution system causing voltage distortion that can simultaneously affect both the distribution system apparatus and the connected loads. Furthermore, low input power factor, increased flow of reactive power, severe input voltage distortion (VD) etc. foster the degree of the complications. In this respect, this paper presents comparative analysis of prominent harmonic mitigation schemes using passive filters for three phase full wave rectifier considering the parameters of THD (Total Harmonic Distortion), efficiency and power factor.
