Numerical analysis of ice pressure on concrete face dam

For a concrete face slab dam project in a 4000m high altitude cold area, the influence of static ice pressure on the stress and deformation of face slab and dam body is analyzed. According to different ice layer thickness by using the finite element analysis method, dam body displacement increment, face slab displacement increment, extreme value and range of face slab stress are discussed. The research shows that static ice pressure has little influence on dam body displacement, the scope of influence is limited to the dam crest 1/4~1/3. The influence on the stress and displacement of the face slab is shown in the increase of the deformation increment of the face slab, and the obvious increase of the extreme value and range of the tensile stress along the slope at the top of the face slab. Therefore, the antifreeze measures should be targeted at the top of the face slab in the area under ice load.
