Cause Analysis and Treatment Measures for Upstream Cracks of a Overflow Dam

There are several longitudinal and transverse cracks under the water level fluctuation area of upstream dam surface of a hydropower station. According to monitoring, detection and numerical simulation calculation, it is comprehensively judged that the cracks are caused by improper treatment of horizontal construction joints and are carried out under the action of hydraulic splitting, and there is the possibility of further expansion of cracks. After expansion, the anti-sliding stability requirements of the floor are not satisfied and reinforcement is required. Further, three-dimensional stress calculation is carried out for the three proposed treatment schemes, and the best one is selected by comprehensively considering the difficulty and reliability of implementation. Adding pre-stressed anchor cable and crack-limiting wall on the basis of sealing joint can significantly improve the stress of dam body and joint end and ensure the safety and stability of dam body. This paper provides a good reference value for the cause analysis and treatment measures of similar engineering cracks.
