Experimental Study of Angle-Type Shear Connectors Welded to Steel Beams and Embedded in Reinforced Concrete Slabs

As is well known, the main function of the use of connectors is to transmit shear forces from the steel beam to the concrete slab and vice versa, in addition to providing a tie between these structural elements. In this project, the strength of angle type shear connectors welded to the beam top flange in 90 and 45-degree position is analyzed. Six push out test with cyclic loading and two with monotonic loading were carried out, and the load against slip curves were evaluated to find the shear strength, slip, ductility, stiffness and dissipated energy. It was obtained that the angle connectors in 90 degree position support a lower load, but they have a higher ductility with respect to the connectors located in 45 degree position. Therefore, they develop a higher energy dissipation. In both cases the stiffness decreases as the slip increases
