Design of MIMO-SAR for Millimeter Wave High Resolution Wide Swath(HRWS) Automotive Radar

Millimeter wave radars are increasingly being used for automotive applications. The main challenge of an automotive radar is to obtain the fine angular resolution both in azimuth and elevation. Traditionally, angular resolution is improved by choice of higher frequency , increase in real aperture, synthetic aperture with the help of platform motion and virtual aperture using MIMO topology. Inspired by the superiority of joint MIMO and SAR schemes, an imaging scheme is proposed which takes into account the beneficial aspects of MIMO radar topology and SAR principles. Extensive MATLAB simulation has been carried out to demonstrate the capability of MIMO-SAR to provide fine angular resolution without compromising longer range swath(HRWS).
