Impact of DG and D-STATCOM Integration in RDN on Power Losses and Voltage Profile Considering Load Growth

In developing countries, the growth of Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) is due to economic growth, energy security, and climate change policies. As nations worldwide contend with the ruining effect of ecological condition change due to anthropocentric developmental activities, the interest in renewable energy in the electrical power industry has been given primary importance. The introduction of RESs into electrical networks can lower carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, reduce transmission congestion, improve voltage profile, and minimize power losses. Introducing RESs has added new complexity to the operation of the distribution system. This paper presents a simple and efficient way for analyzing the impact of Distributed Generation (DG) and Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator (D-STATCOM) units placement in Radial Distribution Networks (RDN) on power losses and voltage profiles considering load growth. To determine the optimal position and DG size, a recent optimization technique named the Metaphor-less method is employed. The results demonstrate the significance of installing the appropriate DG and D-STATCOM size at the appropriate location. As a testing system, the IEEE-33 bus has been employed.
