Measuring Digital Health Literacy in Hungary: A Scoping Review

Digital health literacy or E-health literacy is defined as the ability to seek, find, understand, and appraise health information from electronic sources and apply the knowledge gained to addressing or solving a health problem. Digital health literacy has been recognized as an important patient-level determinant of health. This scoping review aims to summarize the evidence from digital health literacy studies conducted in Hungary, to have a better understanding of the Hungarian E-health literacy. The goals are to summarize the studies available, and to understand how such studies measured E-health literacy. Methods: following a systematic search in the PubMed database, Google Scholar, and Google during May 2022, 21 studies were selected from scientific papers, working papers and grey literature. The main aims, used surveys, the target audience and research results were summarized. Based on the selected papers, participants with better E-health literacy scores are more likely to understand the explanation of health care professionals and they can be more involved in the decision-making process regarding their own health and have a better understanding of health-related consequences. Given the fact that no such scoping review has been done with a single country focus, researchers are encouraged to do such reviews with different country focus as well to understand the region's E-health literacy level better. Also, based on the available studies, there is a lack of follow up studies or measurements of any interventions, this also offers new research opportunities.
