Methodological and bibliometric examination of systematic reviews of digital biomarker-based studies

The process of measuring, collecting, and storing health data has been transformed by sensors and digital technologies. Digital biomarkers are objective, measurable physiological and behavioral parameters stored in portable, wearable, implanted, or consumable digital devices. This study aims to investigate the methodological and bibliometric characteristics of digital biomarker-based systematic reviews. English-language systematic reviews of digital biomarkers that included at least one randomized controlled trial with a human population and reported changes in participants' health status were considered eligible. 66 reviews met the inclusion criteria. Numerous systematic reviews in the field of digital biomarkers have been published in various disciplines. Researchers in this field should search for grey literature in various electronic databases from engineering to medicine when searching for systematic reviews, as this is one of the most important sources of systematic reviews to find the most relevant studies.
