A Compact, Flexible And Multiband Antenna For Sub-6 GHz Wearable Applications

A compact, flexible and multiband antenna operating in the 1.5 GHz, 1.94 GHz, 2.88 GHz and 3.3 GHz L and S bands is proposed for sub-6GHz wearable applications. The structure consists of an elliptical patch with horizontal L-slots and ring slots, with the slotted ground providing the quad-band operation. The design is realized using a flexible jean substrate with a dielectric constant of 1.7 and loss tangent of 0.025 with a footprint of 60x60x1.17 mm

. The maximum realized gains of -1.8, 2.2, -2.8, and -1.5 dBi are obtained using the design. The wearability and safety analysis is also verified for the design using a three-layer phantom equivalent model. The simulation results show that it provides a low SAR value of 0.08, 0.23, 0.22 and 0.05 W/Kg at the respective resonant frequencies. Due to the features of quad-band operation with compact size, flexibility, and low SAR values, it can be used for sub-6 GHz wearable applications.
