A Line-drawing Extraction Method for Traditional Ornament based on 3D Models

As the entity of the cultural heritage, Chinese ancient architectures contain a large number of the traditional patterns and ornaments. In this paper, we propose an extraction method for traditional ornaments by calculating the line-drawing from 3D models of brick carvings to generate graphical pattern elements automatically. Based on the geometric attributes calculated from 3D meshes, we estimate types of feature contours that form an entire line-drawing from arbitrary views. The rendering results can be utilized in the design practice which can greatly improve the efficiency and stability of traditional ornament extraction works.
