Monitoring Hazardous Pollutants Using Smart Sensors and WSN

One of the main environmental problems facing the globe today is air pollution. High mortality rates, cardiovascular disorders, and cancer are among side consequences of air pollution. High population density, industrial growth, and migration are major causes of air pollution in metropolitan areas. According to estimates from the World Health Organization, lung cancer, chronic respiratory disorders, heart disease, stroke, and ambient air pollution cause for 4.2 million deaths annually. Human-harming air pollutants include nitrogen oxide, sulphur dioxide, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), dioxins, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Improving the living conditions of society urgently requires monitoring and forecasting of air quality. Since smart sensor technologies, machine learning, and deep learning models may all be used to monitor and anticipate hazardous pollutants. This study attempts to evaluate the numerous research works carried out in the application of sensors and wireless sensor networks to monitor hazardous pollutants. Additional research works has been carried out on the use of solar energy for the hazardous pollution monitoring. Further a IoT device is designed and developed and implemented to monitor hazardous pollutant is presented in the paper. The best ways for monitoring and forecasting the hazardous pollutant may be suggested for better living condition of the society.
