Compact Dual-Band Wearable Antenna for On/Off Body Wireless Communication Applications

This paper presents a dual band wearable monopole antenna with operating frequency of 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz. In this particular antenna, there is a F shaped monopole along with an inverted L shaped stub attached to the top edge of the monopole making a ring shape structure. Upper ring-shaped structure is responsible for the lower band and the lower part of the F shaped structure gives the upper band. A ground plane is located on the back side of the semi flexible substrate, and it is connected with a SMA connector. Proposed antenna shows a fractional bandwidth of 2.5 % for 2.4 GHz and 35.5 % for 5.8 GHz. The gain and peak gain obtained of 2.54dBi and 2.6dBi respectively at the frequency of 2.4GHz, similarly a gain of 3.38 dBi and peak gain of 4dBi respectively at a resonant frequency of 5.8 GHz. The proposed antenna has overall dimensions of 18.5×10.5×0.644 mm³. Simulated radiation properties of the antenna show its suitability for wearable on-body and off-body wireless communication applications.
