A Hybrid Control Strategy for Radar Servo System

A hybrid control strategy composed of a classical proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller and an expert PID controller is presented for the radar servo system in this paper. Based on the presented mathematic detailed model with current loop, the velocity loop and position loop are studied and discussed. And then, its responses with different proportion coefficient and integration time in PID controls are investigated, which shows that there is a large overshoot in the current loop, resulting in excessive motor current in practice. Based on the expert PID control strategy introduced in the current loop, a hybrid control strategy is introduced for the radar servo position tracing. The simulation results show that the presented hybrid control strategy with the classical PID and expert PID controllers can not only quickly trace the angle position with the smooth speed, but also can prevent excessive current.
